                                                            Shopping for vegetables on Sunday

I am free this weekend cos the pupils need to go to school. There aren't

enough vegetables for today, and the green grocery in our school is always

closed on weekends, we have to buy vegetables in the market a little far from

home. My hub agrees to cook lunch, so my task is to shop for greengrocery.

On my bike I set out for the market. Out of our school gate is a slope, some

parts of it are a little steep, so it's easier to go down than up, but I don't mind cos I also need some physichal exercise.

After going down the slope, the air was foggy, I know it was because of the

cement power from the cement plant nearby. If you caught a sudden rain near

this cement plant, your clothes would be stained by the dirty rain falling down,

I had many experiences before. Several years ago, this city entered for the

cleanest provincial city , even now she was far from that title. I refused to vote

for my city, I love this city but I had to say sorry to the mayor .

The farmers put their vegetables baskets at the side of the pavements, they

don't want to go to the market cite, cos it was convenient to sell. But the vehicle

with the wokers of the City Construction Team was patrolling around from time

to time. Every time when the vehicle approached, the farmers on the road side

were like afeared rabbits, they carried on their baskets or pushed their trollies,

moving away as quickly as possible.

At the side of the pavement I noticed two girls aged my daughter's age

or even younger than my daughter, maybe they were students in primary

school. The two girls were beside two vegetable baskets. It was obvious that

they were here selling the vegetables. From the appearance and the clothes

they wore I knew their family was in a poor condition, I decided to buy some

cowpeas in their baskets. I bought more than I needed. When I left , I looked

over my shoulder at the two girls--- they were just at my daughter's age, maybe

they had known the hardship of life, but I was sure they could manage difficulty

more smoothly when they grew up.

After buying all I needed in the market, I went to a supermarket to purchase

a box of fresh cow milk for my daughter, the final exam was coming, and she

needs more nutrition. I thought of the two little girls on the market once more.
